The doctor parents ask for
Dr. Diego Torres earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic, the profession's founding school, after a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science at the University of Central Florida. That science-first path shows up in how he practices with families: thorough, unhurried, and clear about the why behind every step.
Parents describe him as passionate, informative, and genuinely invested. With a child on the table, that matters more than it sounds. A kid who understands what is about to happen is a kid who stays relaxed through it, and a parent who understands it can make a real decision rather than a nervous one.
More about his background and approach on Dr. Torres's full profile.
Perinatal care: the Webster Technique through a changing body
Pregnancy reorganizes your structure over nine months. Weight goes forward, your center of gravity moves, ligaments loosen, and the low back, hips and pelvis absorb most of that change. Dr. Torres uses the Webster Technique, a specific and gentle adjustment focused on balance in the pelvis, alongside adjustments matched to where you are in your pregnancy.
Care is adapted trimester by trimester. Positioning changes as you grow, pressure stays light, and nothing happens until you understand what he is doing and why. Many expecting mothers come in for low back and pelvic discomfort that has stopped responding to rest and stretching.
Pediatric care: a small fraction of the force used on an adult
The single most common question parents ask is whether an adjustment on a child looks anything like the one they get. It does not. A pediatric adjustment uses a small fraction of the force used on an adult, applied with fingertip pressure, matched to a child's size, age and comfort, and explained to parents every step of the way.
Children's spines are still developing, and they take a lot of ordinary abuse: the way a toddler falls, the way a backpack loads one shoulder, the way a growing athlete trains one side of the body far harder than the other. Dr. Torres looks at how a child actually moves before he does anything about it.
What care here actually covers
Dr. Torres will talk with you about movement, discomfort, posture, and how your child's spine and joints are working. He will also talk about the nervous system those joints report to, because that system does not stop at movement. Nerve fibers supply the thymus, spleen and lymph nodes directly, and digestion runs largely on the parasympathetic side of the same system, which is why parents often notice changes past the thing they first came in for.
You get a real exam, an honest read on whether this is the right care for your child, and a plan you understand. If something belongs with your pediatrician, he will tell you that too, and if this is not the right fit, he will say so.
What a first visit actually looks like
Every visit at Crown starts the same way: a real conversation and an exam first, before any hands-on care.
- A conversation with you. Pregnancy history or birth history, what you are noticing, what your goals are, and what your child is like on a normal day.
- A hands-on exam. Posture, movement, and joint function, gentle throughout, with your child's comfort setting the pace.
- Testing where it adds something. Applied Kinesiology muscle-response testing when the source of a problem is not obvious from movement alone.
- A plan in plain language. What he found, what he recommends, how long it should take, and what would make him send you elsewhere.
Parents are in the room for all of it. Nothing is done to your child that you have not had explained to you first.
Care for the whole family
Most families arrive here in one of two ways. A mother comes in during pregnancy and later brings the baby, or a parent already under care at Crown decides their kid should be looked at too. Either way you are working with a full team: Dr. Torres for pediatric and perinatal care, Dr. Jarod Ward for functional medicine and root-cause work, and Dr. Leah, whose background in psychology and mental health informs her work with the Neuro-Emotional Technique. Crown has served Southwest Florida families since 2018.
Good to know
Questions parents ask Dr. Torres
Is chiropractic care safe for babies and children?
Pediatric adjustments use a small fraction of the force used on an adult, applied with light fingertip pressure and matched to your child's age, size and comfort. An exam always comes first, and Dr. Torres explains what he is doing to you before he does it. If he does not think chiropractic care is the right fit for your child, he will tell you and point you toward who is.
How old does a child have to be?
There is no minimum age for an evaluation. What changes with age is the technique and the amount of pressure, which is matched to the child in front of him. Many families first come in with a newborn after a difficult birth, and others come in when a school-age child starts reporting back or neck discomfort.
What is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a specific, gentle chiropractic adjustment focused on balance in the pelvis during pregnancy. As your posture and center of gravity shift, it supports the pelvis and surrounding soft tissue in moving well. You can read more on our prenatal and pediatric care page.
Can I get adjusted while pregnant, and in which trimester?
Care can be adapted to any stage of pregnancy. Positioning, pressure and technique change as you grow, and Dr. Torres will adjust the approach to where you are and what you are feeling. Tell him about any pregnancy complications at your first visit so he can factor them into the plan.
Does an adjustment help my child's focus, behavior or immune system?
Chiropractic care supports nervous system regulation, and the nervous system is wired into both. Nerve fibers supply the thymus, spleen and lymph nodes directly, and the state a child's body is holding affects how they digest, absorb and respond. In our office we see this in the day to day, and parents report steady improvement over time. Dr. Torres will give you an honest read on what care can do for your child, and he will tell you when something belongs with your pediatrician.
Do you treat pregnant patients and children in the same visit?
Families often book back-to-back appointments, which is usually the easiest way to do it with young children. Call the office at (239) 441-2275 and our team will help you find times that work together.
